Significance of Uniforms in the Professional World


Uniforms are basically the same and do not vary a great deal. These are designed to specifically represent a set of people working together in a department or area and they ensure consistency in work and standardization. Distinction is prominent in all stages of life. These are also prevalent at the school level in which there are different uniforms for a set grade level. The students are also categorized into popular, weak and intelligent categories.

This distinction is not only present in schools but also in the professional front. The business uniforms are designed as per the work involved, their designation and also the place they are working. The type of apparel can very well define the business position in the organization. The system of wearing uniforms is very well followed in restaurants. The designing and customs can be different depending on the kind of restaurant but the basic clothing remains the same. The common attire includes the chef's hat, double breasted jacket, checkered trousers and apron.

The chef aprons are considered to be very useful for keeping the chef's clothes clean and also to protect the chef from the heat of the cooking. These were generally maintained at the level of the ankles to protect the thigh and leg areas from spills and burns but nowadays, most of the chefs prefer short aprons to match their style. There are a variety of styles and colors which are designed in different patterns to suit the styling and pattern of the restaurant. An apron is also worn to store napkins, straws and other useful items.
Similarly, the hat worn by the chef serves different purposes. The basic purpose is to cover the hair so as to prevent it from falling in the food served to the customers. These hats are always white in color and are designed in a way which helps to reflect the rank of the chef. The height and the pleats help to define the seniority of the chef among all the other chefs. They are available in free sizes and have an elastic fit to adjust on any head. Many restaurants put their logos on the hats to give a personalized and appealing look.

There is a little bit of variation in the clothing attire in restaurants and hotel uniforms. The difference is between different sections holding different positions and responsibilities in the hotel. The uniforms are designed differently for front end help, valets and other employees working under different sections. The important aspect which is considered while designing an attire is to follow the same style, color and pattern to develop a sense of uniformity among the team members.
