Cotton is a natural fabric that keeps you cool during the summer months and warm in the winter. If you notice a greasy stain on your favorite cotton shirt, treat the stain and launder the shirt as quickly as possible to prevent a permanent stain. You can use chlorine bleach on white cotton fabrics, but dyed cotton requires the use of a color-safe bleach. Blot up the greasy stain immediately with a paper towel or a clean, absorbent cloth.

Set the washing machine on the hottest water that the cotton shirt can withstand according to the care label.

Rub the detergent or spray into the cotton shirt well.

Pour about 1/4 cup of heavy-duty laundry detergent or the pretreatment spray onto the greasy stain.

Dry the cotton shirt in your normal fashion. Cotton may shrink and retains its shape and color best if hung up and allowed to dry naturally

Look at the cotton shirt carefully before drying it. Check the fabric to ensure all the stain is gone. If not, repeat the procedure.

Pour your regular amount of laundry detergent into the machine and allow the cotton shirt to wash normally.
