A uniform is a set standard of clothing worn by affiliates of an organisation while participating in that institute's activities. The people who generally wear uniforms are the police, armed forces, emergency services, schools and people in workplaces. When the perception of having a common dress code came about there was a sense of cohesion which developed among the people. Uniforms also depict camaraderie, and this has been the way throughout time, even in the Roman Empire, and has continued until the modern day.
Uniforms these days are relatively common with paramilitary organizations as they need to stand out in a crowd and be easily recognisable and also portray the services they perform each day. These uniforms not only make the person wearing them feel proud but also have a striking effect on others, altering one's mood towards that person.
Industry demands – there are certain service businesses that focus purely on the customer, for instance grocery stores, restaurants and hospitals. These industries demand that the workforce that they have employed look more united and eager to serve the customer and their needs.
Uniforms as a perk – in many large companies a uniform is considered to be an honour and a kind of privilege when receiving uniform. This means the employee does not have to change clothes every day or buy new clothing for work.
Uniform as a sense of belonging – in a workplace if the staff members are wearing the same uniform a sense of commonness grows within the workplace allowing everyone to have a sense of belonging, and if not worn the feeling would be difficult to achieve.
Equality – uniform brings everyone to the same level, no matter the wealth gap between the employees. In this instance everyone shares a mutual feeling of being equal among those who wear the same uniform.
